ABOUT THE PROJECT
Every hour in Brazil, a person with a disability suffers violence. According to authorities, the number of aggressions is much higher because of the lack of accessibility which makes reporting more difficult. Especially for hearing impaired and deaf women.
With this in mind, Associação Fala Mulher joined SBT to create Voice of Silence, a project that brings innovation by giving silent women a voice to change the harsh reality of those who need special assistance to break the cycle of violence.
In other words, the Voice of Silence Project became a new voice in the fight against violence against women, encouraging more and more victims.
SEE AGE RATING WARNINGS
You may not know, but most victims of domestic violence are PWDs. And, for the first time, hearing impaired and deaf women were included in an innovative way in a campaign.
Television is the only communication channel with 88% coverage and almost 100% penetration in Brazil. As a result, virtually the entire population is impacted by the broadcasters’ programming, including hearing impaired and deaf women who suffer domestic violence.
To promote an exclusive reporting channel that uses Sign Language (LIBRAS), we “hacked” the only space on TV where it is possible to communicate directly with them: the age rating warning. In Brazil, all television shows are required by law to show an opening with a Brazilian Sign Language interpreter warning about inappropriate content on the show.
For the first time ever we transformed the age rating warning into an advertising format with a hidden message: "Hey, you... yeah, you... watching me. You are no longer alone in case of violence: report it now in sign language at falamulher.ong.br"
In a discreet way, without attracting the attention of the attackers, we encouraged these victims to report domestic violence through our exclusive channel in sign language (LIBRAS).
